Oct 30 (2 days ago)

RYLA 2015: http://youtu.be/gsJS5JaDCMM
RYLA will be July 15-19, 2016 at Central Christian Camp in Guthrie, OK.
RYLA 2016: http://goo.gl/forms/v5rgR3WorF. Below information on the application format.
We are also sending this information to the Rotary Clubs in your area.

RYLA by the numbers
  • 29: The number of years our district has had RYLA, as of the 2016 camp.
  • 5: The number of camp days.
  • 75-100: The number of 1st year campers we host each year.
  • 36-40: The number of 2nd year campers/helpers, also know Trailblazers.
  • 24: The number of 3rd and 4th year students, serving as Junior Counselors.
  • 12: The number of 5th+ year students, serving as Counselors.
  • 8: The number of 6th+ year RYLArians, serving in administrative roles (Uur Asst. Dir. will be celebrating his 11th year with us in 2016 and is now the Program Director at Central Christian Camp.)-- RYLA truly is for youth, by youth.
  • 60: Number of Rotarians (community leaders) that came out to visit RYLA during the 2015 camp.
  • Around 20: Number of RYLA Alumni who came to the reunion on Saturday night, bringing their families with them!
  • 0: The number of lectures our students have to sit through about leadership. We are an active learning camp.

For District 5750, Rotary Youth Leadership Award is an opportunity for students to disconnect from their world and reconnect with each other.  Phones, ipods, personal cameras, etc. are not allowed and frankly (after the first day), not missed. Students get a rare opportunity to experience a world of trust, hope, motivation, and love.  The staff, made up primarily of former attendees, expects each person to be themselves and bring what only they can bring to the camp.  Then, we expect each person, in their own way, to go out into the world and give their time and talent, if not yet their treasures, to others.  We hope that if you have not had a chance to visit, you will make some time this year.  You are always welcome.

Camp RYLA 2016 Procedures/Process

October/November 2015
Applications are sent to all Rotary Clubs in District 5750, to all high schools in the district (via email) and to recent former campers. The application has been created in Google Forms, so must be filled out electronically. It is compatible with smart phones, so students can fill them out anywhere.

These forms will automatically fill in a spreadsheet for the camp of potential campers. This also creates a Google Document, with all of the student's information, that will be forwarded to the student's local Rotary Club.

This means:
There are no forms for anyone pick up or drop off anymore.
The forms will be emailed directly to the clubs, from me.
* Former campers that find students, in your area, who are excited about RYLA, can fill out a form and it will be sent to the clubs.
There is no need to scan and email apps anymore. I will have all of the information.
* Selected students will need fill out the release forms, once accepted, and send them back with their pictures/bios/etc.

November 30, 2015
Applications are due from campers. Applications that have not been forwarded to the clubs, will be at this time.

January 18, 2016

Do you know an outstanding junior who would be a great fit for Youth Leadership Oklahoma????

Attention Juniors:  Applications for Class XVI of Youth Leadership Oklahoma are now available www.leadershipoklahoma.com. This is an outstanding opportunity for students who have demonstrated a unique ability to lead others while making a significant impact upon their school and community.  Each student selected will be awarded a full scholarship to our program and will benefit from the incredible programs, speakers, and events as this class bonds together and discovers the treasures of Oklahoma!

The selection committee looks for students who represent our state’s best young leaders — those who have demonstrated leadership ability in activities such as student council, athletics, community and service clubs.  Keep in mind that with approximately 50 class members chosen throughout the state, selection will be difficult.  Every effort will be made to select a balance of representatives from across Oklahoma.

Important Points for YLOK Applications

  • Only high school JUNIORS are eligible to apply.
  • Applications must be received no later than 5 p.m. Tuesday, December 1, 2015. Faxed applications and emailed applications will not be accepted.
  • Principals must sign the application form verifying the applicant’s GPA.
  • There is no program cost or fund-raising required of the student or school.  Each student will receive a full program scholarship for all transportation, lodging and food.  This is possible through corporate and Leadership Oklahoma funding.
  • After the initial meeting and orientation, transportation to all activities is provided, therefore students will not need to provide or acquire transportation for the trip.
  • Each student must be willing and available to attend the entire program, June 5-10, 2016 as a prerequisite for application.
